Germfree Laboratories has announced the certified integration of its Smarthood sterile compounding hood with Wolters Kluwer Health’s Simplifi+ IV Workflow Management platform, expanding automation and traceability capabilities for hospital pharmacy teams.
The integration combines Smarthood with Simplifi+ IV Workflow, Assure-Trak and Simplifi 797, enabling pharmacy teams to complete required sterile compounding workflow steps without leaving the hood.
The companies said the integrated setup supports both volumetric and gravimetric workflows while reducing manual steps, workflow interruptions and contamination risk.
Smarthood incorporates hardware including cameras, scales and barcode scanners directly into the compounding environment.
When paired with Simplifi+, the system is designed to standardise pharmacy operations, automate documentation and support continuous audit readiness.

One of the key features of the integration is preparation-level video documentation.
Smarthood’s built-in field-of-view camera works with Simplifi+ IV Workflow to record video during preparation and associate the footage directly with the individual preparation record.
According to the companies, Simplifi+ is the first software platform to provide this type of integrated field-of-view video capture within the preparation record.
The feature is intended to give pharmacy teams greater visibility into the compounding process and provide stronger traceability during quality review and audit activities.

The integration also supports precise dosing for paediatric and neonatal preparations.
Built-in vibration dampening is designed to maintain consistent gravimetric measurement when preparing smaller-volume doses.
Germfree said the hood is also designed for continuous use and regular cleaning in demanding hospital pharmacy environments.
The certified integration of Simplifi+ IV Workflow and Simplifi 797 with Germfree Smarthood is available now.
The development reflects a broader shift in hospital pharmacy technology towards more connected compounding environments where hardware, workflow software, automated data capture and traceability tools operate together.
By reducing manual documentation and keeping pharmacists and technicians within the sterile field, the integrated system is intended to support more consistent preparation, stronger oversight and safer medication workflows.
