Terumo Neuro Expands Stroke Care Portfolio with SOFIA™ Flow 88 Launch in EMEA

Next-generation aspiration catheter now commercially available across Europe, Middle East, and Africa

Terumo Neuro has expanded its neurovascular portfolio with the commercial launch of the SOFIA™ Flow 88 Neurovascular Aspiration Catheter, a next-generation large-bore device designed to enhance stroke intervention procedures. Leveraging over a decade of engineering excellence and global clinical experience, the catheter features an 0.088-inch inner diameter, nitinol braid and coil reinforcement, and a soft, atraumatic distal tip. These proprietary design elements allow for exceptional trackability, vessel safety, and procedural control, supporting efficient clot aspiration even in tortuous anatomy.

The SOFIA™ Flow 88 is a strategic advancement in acute ischemic stroke care, addressing the growing demand for reliable, high-performance aspiration solutions. Its design ensures compatibility with both short and long sheaths, and it integrates seamlessly into existing aspiration strategies, including with the SOFIA™ Plus 6F catheter. Clinical studies like SOFAST and SESAME have demonstrated the effectiveness of the SOFIA™ catheter line in delivering fast, safe, and clinically meaningful outcomes, positioning the Flow 88 as a critical tool in frontline stroke therapy.

This launch reinforces Terumo Neuro’s commitment to physician-driven innovation and delivering a comprehensive stroke care ecosystem. When used alongside devices such as the ERIC™ Retrieval Device, BOBBY™ Balloon Guide Catheter, and WEDGE™ Microcatheter, the SOFIA™ Flow 88 contributes to a fully integrated approach across aspiration, retrieval, navigation, and access. With over 500,000 procedures supported globally by the SOFIA™ line, this latest release continues the company’s mission to improve neurovascular outcomes and elevate standards in stroke intervention worldwide.
