Germfree, a pioneering leader in modular cleanroom infrastructure and services, and Nuvai Medical Technologies, a pioneer in technologies for the safe, accurate, and precise preparation of medications in the clinical setting, announced a partnership to integrate Nuvai’s Aseptique AI-powered aseptic monitoring platform into Germfree’s Smarthood, providing hospital pharmacies with real-time visibility into compounding technique using the system's existing cameras. These capabilities will move oversight of aseptic handling from simulations and retrospective microbe testing to real-time monitoring.
The integration adds a new layer of protection to IV compounding, without requiring additional hardware. Traditionally, pharmacies rely on periodic assessments of aseptic technique to meet the requirements of pharmaceutical guidelines and ensure the safety of compounded medicines. By utilizing Aseptique, pharmacies can move from indirectly monitoring the safety of an environment to directly ensuring the use of appropriate aseptic technique.
“By combining Smarthood with Aseptique, we are extending the value of a platform our customers already trust,” said Judd Baker, Vice President of Healthcare at Germfree. “Together, we are giving pharmacy teams actionable insight into aseptic technique and helping strengthen the safety and consistency of IV compounding.”
The integration will help pharmacy teams gain greater confidence that sterile preparations are produced consistently while building on the workflow they already use. Each technician receives an individual dashboard highlighting aseptic technique deviations, while pharmacy leaders gain an enterprise-wide view of performance trends. The combined solution supports continuous improvement, reduces the risk of compounding errors, and helps reinforce best practices across the department.
“We at Nuvai Medical Technologies are excited about the integration of our novel technology Aseptique into the Germfree Smarthood. Aseptique uses machine learning to ensure that every compounded product is prepared sterilely. Nuvai Medical Technologies recognizes that collaborating with Germfree will bring needed technologies to improve patient care by assisting pharmacy departments so that every IV medication is prepared correctly,” said Stephen Eckel, Founder and President of Nuvai Medical Technologies.
