Exactech has announced the successful first surgery using its newly launched Alteon® Short Tapered Wedge Hip Stem, marking a key milestone in expanding the company’s hip implant portfolio. The procedure was performed by Dr. Mark Schinsky at The American Hip Institute & Orthopedic Specialists in Chicago.
The next-generation stem is engineered to fit a broader range of femoral anatomies while conserving distal bone. Designed as a shorter and narrower version of the established Alteon Tapered Wedge system, the new implant aims to deliver both immediate stability and enhanced adaptability for different surgical approaches and patient profiles.
Exactech emphasized that the design provides axial and rotational control while simplifying the restoration of leg length and offset. It also enables minimally invasive surgery through a more compact form, being up to 25% shorter than its standard counterparts. The implant system is compatible with the broader Alteon line, which includes HA and highly polished stems and acetabular cups with vitamin E-infused liners.
Currently in limited launch across select U.S. sites, the Alteon Short Tapered Wedge Hip Stem is expected to enter full market release in Q4 2025. The innovation aligns with Exactech’s strategy to provide ASC-friendly, space-efficient solutions with optimized surgical instrumentation.
